In "The Tides," a folk love song, the narrative unfolds around a person who once felt isolated until the arrival of their other half. The lyrics weave a tender tale of newfound connection, using the metaphor of the tides to express the transformative power of love. I wrote this song for my partner, whose patience and vulnerability inspired me to let go of previous experiences and not only allow me to connect to another person but myself as well.

lyrics

Lyrics:

I'd been ripped out by the tides
I’d been going places that I could hide
Hide from the storm
I was going back and forth
I would retreat trying not to use force
To keep myself warm

But I found home in the safety of your arms
And I found peace in the hint of a smile
I can’t remember what it was like before
I closed my eyes and opened up the door

I’d been locked up from within
I’d keep quiet so I wouldn’t begin
To set myself free

But I found home in the safety of your arms
And I found peace in the hint of a smile
I can’t remember what it was like before
I closed my eyes and opened up the door

But here I am floating on your love
Keeping my head up, above the water
